Billionaire Elon Musk’s AI venture, xAI, has unveiled Grok, a chatbot designed with a unique sense of humor. Grok’s “rebellious streak” and witty responses are in stark contrast to Musk’s previously expressed concerns about AI. Musk once labeled AI a “fundamental risk to the existence of human civilization.” However, Grok has been created to entertain and provide answers to a wide array of questions, including the spicier ones.
Safeguards and Aspirations
While Grok’s humor might seem at odds with Musk’s AI worries, xAI has emphasized its commitment to building safeguards against potential misuse. The startup acknowledges the need to prevent “catastrophic forms of malicious use” and plans to work towards that goal. Additionally, Grok benefits from real-time knowledge from the X platform, controlled by Musk, which sets it apart from other chatbots.
Grok-1, the engine behind Grok, has outperformed ChatGPT 3.5 in various academic parameters. However, it is still in its early beta stage and may generate false or contradictory information. Currently, the Grok prototype is accessible to a limited number of users in the U.S., with plans to offer it for $16 on X Premium Plus.
